The Rainbow: a sign of pride or a promise?

While the month of June is coming to an end the rainbow has been used for many purposes in our culture then what we are used to knowing.

But what is the original meaning of the rainbow though?

Many of us grew up with the biblical story of Noah’s Ark. And as we all know, once the waters subsided, the dove brought back an olive branch, and the ark settled the animals and Noah’s family were able to walk the earth once again.

God then made a covenant, a promise not only with Noah but with all of humanity that he would never again flood the world. Despite the evil and sin that comes from humanity, God was merciful by saving Noah and his family. The sign of this promise is the rainbow.

Each time the rainbow appears after a storm it is a sign of hope painted across the sky. Hope that despite our short-comings and sins, God’s mercy is still and will always be present with us.

While the world changes, the cross stands firm” ~ Saint Bruno
